How to Connect your Computer to your HDTV
You can see pictures from your Personal computer on your HDTV and even search the internet on your HDTV, if you connect the cables from the computer to the television in the correct manner. High definition is fantastic on your PC but when connected to your HDTV it can give a fantastic visual experience.
If the interface for both is common then it makes the task that much easier. When you display your PC screen on your HDTV there is bound to be a small amount of over scan. However, this may not pose much of a problem in case of watching movies or videos, but it may affect you when playing video games.
If the interface on your computer is DVI or HDMI and it is the same for your television, all you have to do is to buy a cable first. Set the resolution of the computer output in such a way that your HDTV supports it. However, it is difficult to obtain a resolution that is supported by both the HDTV and the PC, as the native resolution of both is not the same.
However, there are certain standard resolutions that are acceptable to HDTVs. You must first check out the manual provided with your HDTV in order to find out which resolutions it supports. Even if you don’t have the manual with you, you can check it over through the manufacturer’s website.
It is very important to set the resolution that is compatible with your HDTV before you plug the cable from the Personal computer to the television. If there is a single common resolution between the two, you can set it at that resolution and wait to get a picture on to the television screen. After this, you can change the resolution to the desired one.
It is always advisable to use the native resolution of the HDTV. If the controls on the display don’t have the desired resolutions, these will have to be added. There is software available to do this and by installing the software, you can add any desired resolution or any preset resolution. Most of the HD resolutions are included in many of the software, such as Powerstrip.
It becomes a little difficult as many PCs do not have a component output, so the alternative is to buy a video card supporting the component unit. Use the latest driver and try out different resolutions till you find the right one. Bear in mind that the wrong resolution can even break your TV, so be careful while connecting your PC to your HDTV.
